The assistant of the Estonian police will be given tasers

  • The assistant of the Estonian police will be given tasers
Estonian police assistants are offered to be given tasers and allowed to use weapons. The Law Commission of the Parliament has come up with such an initiative. The deputies sent amendments to the relevant law for the first reading.
The current provisions of the law provide for the use of firearms only in case of emergency self-defense and not exceeding its limits. And there are no rules for using tasers at all.
"The purpose of the bill is to increase the efficiency of police assistants and eliminate legal obstacles that interfere with daily work," the press service of the Estonian parliament reported.
In general, the new law should significantly expand the rights of police assistants. At the same time, it is supposed to involve them in other types of activities. For example, they will be allowed to work in the criminal investigation department or detain violators of traffic rules.
An Estonian citizen over the age of 18 can become a police officer's assistant. Special training lessons and trainings are conducted for volunteers.
Law enforcement officers from other countries also began to use weapons more often. The French gendarmes are more willing to grab it than many of their colleagues.
